June Sign Ups - Character Designs

June Exchange


The June exchange will be a normal round with a special character design theme! For this round, you will either design new characters for each other or redesign old characters for each other!

When you're asking for a character design, you can be as specific or as general as you'd like. As an example, it's perfectly fine to simply ask for a "dragon with antlers" or "a green-eyed, serpentine red dragon with 10-point antlers." Describing the character's personality and back story is recommended, but not required in this round. You don't even have to have names or visual references for your characters.

MOD NOTE: Please keep in mind that other people might interpret your designs very, very differently than you do. If you have an inflexible, *very specific* idea in mind, it might be better to either design that character yourself or give the person as much detail as you can upfront. It isn't someone's fault if they miss character details which you never told them about.
 
More About this Round:

  1. You can choose who you want to draw for through the "Your Choice" journal. The "Your Choice" journal will be posted shortly after signs ups are closed. For more details about the "Your Choice" journal, please look in our blog's history.


  2. Artwork for the June exchange is due by June 30th. You have until June 1st to sign up. You can still sign up for the June exchange if you haven't completed your May exchange artwork, but you will be removed from the sign up list if you do not complete your May exchange artwork by June 1st.


  3. Full body pictures are required for this round. However, shading and detailed backgrounds are both optional. You can decide whether you want to make a reference sheet for the character, or whether you want to make a normal illustration of that character instead. If you're using flat colors, please make sure that your line art is nice and clean (we shouldn't see any stray marks or leftover construction lines).

  4. You can list up to three characters in your sign up sheet, but only one of those characters has to be drawn by the person drawing for you. This also works in reverse: if the person you're assigned to draw for includes more than one character, just choose your favorite character and draw them. If you're up for the challenge, you could also draw all of the listed characters together in one picture - it's really up to you, though.


  5. If you have any questions or concerns about the exchange, please don't leave your questions here. Contact us directly by sending us a note through the club's note system. You should only leave sign-up related comments on this journal.

How to Join Our Group


If you want to join our group, just hit the "join our group" button located above. We'll then look at your gallery to make sure that your art meets the quality controls for our group. If it does, your membership will be approved. If it doesn't, we will give you tips and critiques on how to improve if you'd like (please let us know in your membership request whether you want a critique or not).

Additional Information:
:bulletgreen: We define fantasy as anything that does not exist in the real world. Our definition can include any mythological creature, magical being, original animal species, alien, anthro, and so on.

:bulletgreen:We will not allow the following types of characters in our exchange (unless they live in a fantasy or sci fi setting):
-normal humans
-normal animals (note: unnaturally colored animals are considered fantasy animals in this exchange)

:bulletgreen: We'd like to see several colored pictures with full or partial backgrounds in your gallery. Versatility in drawing is a plus as well (can you draw one species well or are you good at drawing everything?). If you tend to upload a ton of sketches or quicker works, it would be nice if you could point us to your more completed works in your sign up form.

:bulletgreen: You'll only have a month (sometimes two) to complete a picture for one of our exchanges. If it usually takes you longer than a month to complete a colored piece, you might want to hold off on applying.

HOW TO SUBMIT ARTWORK TO THE GROUP
To submit artwork to the club, click on the "Contribute Art" button located above and submit it into the "Featured" folder. One of the admins will then move it to the correct month's folder.

Only artwork related to fantasy-xchange (like avatars or banners) or made for a round of fantasy-xchange can be submitted to the group.

Group Info

Fantasy-xchange (or FAX) is a quality controlled, secret Santa style monthly art exchange for all things fantasy. Our exchange can include any mythological creature, magical being, unique or original animal species, alien, anthro, and so on. Basically, anything which doesn't exist in the real world is fair game here.

The admins are active and we have some regulars who participate every month. If you don't receive artwork in the exchange for some reason, don't worry! As long as you turned in your artwork on time, you'll be "adopted" out and someone else will complete the artwork that you're owed.

We are in search of serious artists who are able to produce quality art within the month.

Please make sure to read the rules and guidelines before sending in your application.
